OK, here we are, at the beginning. Where we end up from here I don’t really know, but this is as good a place to start as any.
I am 35 years old and live in Ontario Canada. I have recently been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I have decided that I need to get into better shape in order to continue breathing and enjoying life. My father also has diabetes as well as heart disease. I think that the two are related. I share a lot of physical traits with my dad, so I think that I need to get this thing under control.
This is the purpose of this Blog. By keeping things written down and at least being able to fool myself into thinking others may be reading what I write, I think it will motivate me to keep going and accomplish some of my goals. I haven’t really set them yet but I will soon.
I am married and have a 9-year-old son. I have a modest house in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) and I have almost finished finishing my basement.
About 1 1/2 months ago, I was feeling tired and was ALWAYS thirsty. This ment that I was also going to the bathroom all the time. I was pretty sure what it ment so I went to the doctor. Yup, Type 2 diabetes at the age of 35!
Since then, I have been on metformin and januvia to control my blood sugar. I have also been adjusting my diet drastically. More on diet later. In addition to this, I have decided to become physically fit by bicycling on a regular basis.
Biking is something I started up again last year but I didn’t do it in the winter due to the cold weather. I have started up again today. I went 9.4 KM (5.8 mi) on my lunch break. I guess this is where I put the stats up!
Height: 183cm (6′)
Weight: 118kg (260 lbs)
Current bike ride: 9.4km (5.8 mi) in 25 min (22.4 km/h avg)
I will keep track of this and see how well I do. the weight I think I will only measure every week.
Wish me luck!
